How to Create Tags
Organize and filter courses, questions, and content with custom tags for flexible categorization
How to Create Tags
Tags provide a flexible, cross-cutting way to categorize and filter content beyond the rigid curriculum hierarchy. While the curriculum organizes content by Subject → Chapter → Topic, tags let you add any label you want.
When to Use Tags
| Use Case | Example Tags |
|---|---|
| Exam preparation | Board Exam 2026, Admission Test, Final Exam |
| Difficulty grouping | Beginner, Advanced, Olympic Level |
| Content type | Practice Set, Model Test, Revision |
| Time-based | Week 1, Ramadan Special, Summer Batch |
| Importance | Must Learn, Frequently Asked, High Weightage |
| Source | Past Papers, Original, Reference Book |
Creating Tags
- Go to Settings → Tags in the sidebar
- Click Create Tag
- Enter a Tag Name (e.g., "Board Exam 2026")
- Optionally assign a Color for visual distinction in lists
- Click Save

Where Tags Can Be Applied
Once created, tags can be attached to various entities:
| Entity | How to Tag |
|---|---|
| Courses | When creating/editing a course → Tags field |
| Questions | In the question bank → Tag field when adding questions |
| Exams | When creating an exam → Filter questions by tag |
| Videos | When adding video content → Tags field |
| PDFs | When uploading PDF resources → Tags field |
| Assignments | When creating assignments → Tags field |
Using Tags for Filtering
Student Portal
Students can filter courses and content by tags on the student portal. For example, they can filter to see only "Board Exam 2026" tagged courses.
Admin Dashboard
- Question Bank — Filter questions by tag to quickly find relevant content
- Exam Creation — Select questions by tag when building an exam
- Course Listing — Filter courses by tag in the admin panel
Search
The search bar supports tag-based search. Multiple tags can be combined:
- AND logic — Show items that have ALL selected tags
- OR logic — Show items that have ANY of the selected tags
Managing Tags
Editing a Tag
- Go to Settings → Tags
- Click the edit icon next to the tag
- Change the name or color
- Click Save
Note: Changing a tag name updates it everywhere it's used.
Deleting a Tag
- Go to Settings → Tags
- Click the delete icon
- Confirm deletion
Warning: Deleting a tag removes it from all content it was attached to. The content itself is not deleted.
Best Practices
- Keep tags concise — Short, descriptive names work best
- Use colors — Visual distinction makes filtering faster
- Avoid duplicates — Check existing tags before creating new ones
- Plan a tag system — Agree on a tagging convention with your team
- Don't over-tag — Too many tags defeats the purpose of organization
Tags vs. Curriculum Hierarchy
| Feature | Curriculum Hierarchy | Tags |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | Rigid (Level → Group → Subject → Chapter → Topic) | Flat (any label) |
| Purpose | Academic organization | Flexible categorization |
| Scope | Questions and courses | Everything (courses, questions, videos, etc.) |
| Required | Yes, for questions | Optional |
| Filtering | Hierarchical drill-down | Simple filter/search |
Use both together: Tag a Physics question with the curriculum hierarchy (Physics → Kinematics → Projectile Motion) AND tags ("Board Exam 2026", "High Weightage").
