How to Connect Exams to a Course
Link exams from the question bank to your course modules for seamless assessment integration
How to Connect Exams to a Course
Exams can be created independently in the Exam System and then connected to specific modules within a course. This separation allows you to reuse the same exam across multiple courses.
Adding an Exam to a Module
- Open the Course → CoursePlan → select a module
- Click Add Content → Exam
- Choose from:
Option A: Create New Exam
Build a new exam directly from here:
- Select question type (MCQ, CQ, SQ)
- Add questions manually or from the question bank
- Configure exam settings
Option B: Select from Question Bank
Use an existing exam:
- Browse available exams
- Search by name, tag, or subject
- Select the exam to connect

Configuring Exam Settings
After connecting an exam, configure these settings:
| Setting | Description | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Duration | Time limit for the exam | Set realistic time based on question count |
| Total Marks | Maximum score | Usually auto-calculated from questions |
| Pass Marks | Minimum score to pass | Common: 40% or 50% of total marks |
| Start Time | When the exam becomes available | Set in your org timezone |
| End Time | Deadline to submit | Allow buffer for late submissions |
| Question Display | All at once or one-by-one | One-by-one prevents skipping ahead |
| Negative Marking | Deduct marks for wrong answers | Common for competitive exams |
| Anti-Cheat | Tab-switch detection | Recommended for graded exams |
| Show Results | Immediately or after manual review | Immediately for MCQ, manual for CQ/SQ |
How It Works for Students
- Students see the exam in their course module on the student portal
- They click Start Exam when ready (within the allowed time window)
- Timer starts counting down
- They answer questions and submit
- MCQ results are auto-graded instantly
- CQ/SQ answers are queued for manual grading by the teacher
Sharing Exams Across Courses
The same exam can be connected to multiple courses:
Exam: "Physics Mid-Term 2026"
├── Connected to: HSC Physics (Morning Batch)
├── Connected to: HSC Physics (Evening Batch)
└── Connected to: HSC Physics (Online)
Important: Changes to the exam (editing questions, adjusting settings) reflect everywhere the exam is connected.
Anti-Cheat Features
When anti-cheat is enabled:
| Feature | How It Works |
|---|---|
| Tab Switch Detection | Warns the student if they switch to another browser tab |
| Full Screen Mode | Exam opens in full-screen; exiting triggers a warning |
| Copy/Paste Block | Prevents copying question text |
| Warning Limits | After N warnings, auto-submit the exam |
| Activity Log | Records all suspicious activities for admin review |
